Twin mama escapes comfort zone to show her boys the world

9 Questions with Marquita from The Traveling Twin Mama

Meet Marquita.  A fellow twin mama, her wanderlust has taken her around the world to over 35 different countries - from solo and couple trips to family and business. She helps women see that they don’t have to stop traveling just because they grow their family as she wrangles her adorable twin toddlers, showing them everything the world has to offer.  Her tips and tricks for traveling equip other moms with the confidence to travel the world and create memories that last a lifetime, one adventure at a time.

Q: When and how was your passion for travel ignited?

When I started traveling for work Internationally, pre-kids

Q: The Great Wanderlust is all about women getting outside the box and diving deeper in both travel and in life. Our mission is to inspire women to feel more vibrant through adventure and exploration. So, what is your great wanderlust?  What most makes you come to life?

Honestly, it’s exploring someplace new. Stepping out of my comfort zone- either a new adventure, food, or experience.

Q: What would be your advice to a mama who wants to travel with her kids but is afraid of the unknowns and what-ifs?

Life is full of unknowns. Especially with kids. Like anything else- letting your kids go to school, out to eat, doctor appointments, doing sports  etc. we control what we can and for the rest, we have to go with the flow.

Travel is no different. We can control a lot of aspects, but the unexpected, we have to go with the flow.

Also, if you’re concerned- start small- some place close or familiar. That way you have an idea of what to expect.

Q: I know you love to experience travel as a family, flying solo and also just you and your twin boys.   What is your favorite thing about traveling in each different scenario?  Do you have a favorite??

Ooh, this is a hard one. Each offers a different experience. I love solo travel. It’s when I feel my truest self - exploring and doing things that I like and prioritizing myself! But when I travel with my kids, I learn so much. I get to see the world from their eyes and perspective. It’s an experience like no other.

Q: Tell us about one benefit you’ve seen that travel has had on your boys?

They are open to change, new ways of doing things, new experiences and people who are different from them.

It’s so cute and thought-provoking to see them interact with other kids who don’t speak English. It shows how much we are innately the same.

Q: Share a moment from your travels that has stuck with you and you’ll never forget.

Going to the elephant sanctuary in Ching Mai, Thailand. My boys were just 1 year old. But even at that age, you could tell how much the enjoyed it. Especially feeding the elephants bananas!

Q: Where are you off to next and what are you most looking forward to about it??

We actually don’t have anything in particular planned. We’ve been doing a lot of day-trips over the weekend, exploring our home state and the surrounding area. It’s such a cool experience seeing our kiddos explore the world right around them- like picking sunflowers or going to state parks to hike.

Q: Is there a question you wish I would have asked or anything else you’d like to share with other mamas relating to travel or life?

It’s most definitely possible to travel with your kids. No, it’s not the same as with kids, but the differences are okay because the memories that are created are worth it!

Q: Who inspires you to dig deeper in travel and life?

Monet from The Traveling Child. She does so many unique experiences with her girls.
